Project Manager, Hannah Klein’s, day to day role involves looking after all aspects of the project operations; from budget control, program adherence, ensuring correct permits are in place, appropriate paperwork is completed, and health and safety is being abided by.
Hannah comments: “I originally studied marketing and international business, but it didn’t really interest me, and I couldn’t see myself doing it as a long-term career. I have always been fascinated with how things are built, so I decided to study engineering. From there, I worked on projects from the design and client side and found that construction is where all the action is happening and getting to be amongst creating something is what I find fascinating!”
Being in the construction industry can sometimes come with gender stereotyping. Hannah explains: “Being a female in this industry is challenging as discrimination is still prevalent. It is still unusual to have females in these male dominated roles but with more females entering the industry I hope to see this change. People have assumed I am not an Engineer and are surprised when I correct them and say I am the project manager!
With more women stepping into the construction sector and into male-dominated roles, Hannah shares her advice on those considering a career in the industry: “It’s so important to have more females take on these roles and break the stereotype. If you like a fast-paced work environment and facing new challenges every day, this is the industry for you, you’ll never get bored! I learn something new every day and am constantly putting my problem-solving skills to the test.”
