Challenges and Solutions:
The project involved the installation of a new 400kV cable circuit to support the future upgrade of the East Coast Mainline. The circuit, which is a two-phase, 104MVA, 400/27.5-0-7.5kV SGT1 circuit, was laid in both cable duct sections and on above-ground steelwork as it approached the cable terminations.
The work also included the provision of new XLPE 630mmÇ copper cable for the SGT2 circuit.
Balfour Beatty were to supply all necessary ducts and CSE (cable sealing end) structures. Additionally, all new circuits were terminated onto the newly supplied CSE structures.
